I’m Dana Sullivan Kilroy, a writer and graduate student. My work has appeared in a variety of magazine, from Shape Fit Pregnancy and Parenting to Real Simple and Outside.I also have written for The New York Times and BabyCenter.com

I have 3 children — all born via c-section. During my first pregnancy I planned for an un-medicated vaginal birth. That was Plan A. Plan B was in place in case I needed pain medication. But ultimately, I had to opt for Plan C. The one I hadn’t even considered: a C-section. An emergency that required general anesthesia.

It took me months to make sense of what had happened. During that time I realized there wasn’t a proper resource for women who have unplanned c-sections, so I teamed up with one of my editors from Parenting magazine and wrote one. “The Essential C-section Guide” was published by Broadway Books/Random House and you can find it at BarnesandNoble.Com and Amazon.com. This blog is a complement to the book.
